Silence Equals Acceptance

I came across this quote the other day when I was doing some research on how recent mandates by the Obama administration violate the First Amendment. This quote reminded of when my dad used to say, “If you see something going on and stand by silently, you are accepting it.” So very true!

Over the past week or so, I have written about what some may consider the “hot button” topics of abortion, health care and the First Amendment. I have been told by some that I should not speak of these topics in “polite company.” I am not really sure what that phrase means, but while I do try to be polite when I express my thoughts and concerns on these issues, I will not be silent simply because the topics might make someone uncomfortable.

And if you think about it, everyone should feel uncomfortable about the idea of killing the unborn, forcing companies and organizations to cover medications and procedures that are against their faith and having our First Amendment rights stomped on. These things matter. Whatever your view on them, you should not be silent. Speak up for what you believe, support your opinion with facts topped by a bit of your passion.

If you speak out, folks will not have to wonder what you think or feel on the topic. If you are silent, that implies acceptance.

I am rarely silent (just ask my family!). And I will continue to speak out on behalf of what I feel is right and wrong. If that makes some folks uncomfortable then they need to ask themselves why. If what I write makes you nod your head in agreement or shake your fist at your computer screen because you think I am wrong that is good, then take a minute to write a reply to this or any of my posts. Exercise your freedom of speech!
