Merry 11th Day of Christmas
Merry 11th Day of Christmas
Eleven pipers piping. Making music. This brings to mind another favorite hymn. This one is Here I Am, Lord. The opening lines always grab hold of me when we sing this hymn.
Here I am, Lord
Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night
I will go, Lord
If You lead me
I will hold Your people in my heart
How often do I say that, offer that to Jesus? How often do I say, “Here I am, Lord, let me help”? I also think about the faithful apostles and how they each said “Here I am, Lord” when they chose to follow him. I do not always find it easy to follow Christ and I bet the apostles each had their own struggles following Him, too.
Why Eleven Pipers Piping on the Eleventh Day of Christmas?
The eleven pipers represent the eleven faithful apostles:
- Simon Peter,
- James the Great,
- John,
- Simon (the Zealot),
- Jude (a.k.a. Thaddeus),
- Andrew,
- James the Less,
- Matthew,
- Phillip,
- Bartholomew, and
- Thomas
The apostles were first followers of Jesus and then they became models and leaders teaching others how to believe and follow Jesus by their actions and their words. I will think about their example as I continue to answer Jesus with, “Here I am, Lord.”
Merry Christmas,
Karen
