Merry 10th Day of Christmas

Merry 10th Day of Christmas

Psalm 98 is used in today’s readings. Whenever I read these verses, I think of the joy-filled hymn, Sing a New Song. The refrain and first verse are my favorites:

Sing a new song unto the Lord
let your song be sung from mountains high
Sing a new song unto the Lord,
singing alleluia.

Yahweh’s people dance for joy.
O come before the Lord.
And play for him on glad tambourines,
and let your trumpet sound.

On difficult days I try hard to find something which sparks joy. On the occasions when I am struggling to find some joy my “rule” is to get moving and find it!  I find doing a dance workout can help me uncover it.

In life, we do need some basic rules and strategies to follow. As a faith-filled woman, I do look to what the Bible and Jeus say about that. It seems like following the 10 Commandments is a good place to begin. Today’s meaning of the 12 Days of Christmas is a good reminder of that!

Why Ten Lords a-leaping on the Tenth Day of Christmas?

The ten lords represent the Ten Commandments. Today seems like a good time to have a refresher on that list, so here it is:

  1. I am the Lord thy God; thou shalt not have strange gods before me.
  2. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
  3. Remember that thou keep holy the Sabbath day.
  4. Honor thy father and mother.
  5. Thou shalt not kill.
  6. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
  7. Thou shalt not steal.
  8. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
  9. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife.
  10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s goods.

Combine the Commandments with the Beatitudes (see 8th Day of Christmas) and we have some good rules to live by.

Merry Christmas, Karen
