Merry 7th Day of Christmas
Merry 7th Day of Christmas
We are already a week into this Christmas season and time does not seem to slow down one bit. It makes me think of when I was a young girl and I would hear my Grandma Lucille talk about how time goes quicker and quicker – and I thought she was a bit nuts and old for believing that. Yet, here I am thinking the same thing. I love how pondering over these twelve days of Christmas stirs up memories I have not thought about in quite a while.
In addition to my parents, my grandmothers were the ones who taught me about faith. In particular, my maternal grandmother, Lucille, passed on so much of her faith to me. This was truly a gift. I can see she had many of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, especially wisdom and understanding. I don’t think she had a fear of God, though, but more a love and respect of God. Today’s theme definitely make me think of my grandmother. 🙂
Why Seven Swans a-swimming on the 7th Day of Christmas?
Seven Swans a-Swimming represent the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit:
- Wisdom
- Understanding
- Counsel
- Fortitude
- Knowledge
- Piety
- Fear of the Lord
The seven swans also represent the seven sacraments of the Catholic faith:
- Baptism
- Confirmation
- Holy Eucharist
- Penance
- Extreme Unction
- Holy Orders
- Matrimony
As this day comes to an end, I will say a few prayers for my loved ones as well as for all those preparing to receive their sacraments in the coming year! May they be guided by the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit on their own faith journey.
Merry Christmas, Karen
